Kihachiro Onitsuka felt the best way to encourage young people to play sport was to provide the best shoes. His first design was for basketball players, but a coach rejected it, because the shoe didn’t respond to the movements of the players. Onitsuka began to watch the team practice, working out what would improve their agility. This deep understanding of what sportspeople really need, drives all our products to this day.
At the ASICS Institute of Sports Science in Kobe, Japan, over 200 experts analyse our products in action, constantly developing new technologies to help consumers reach their sporting goals.
